‘Good health is synonymous with a good country’

Maharashtra Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar has raised worrisome questions at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Wednesday. He was addressing experts and panellists present at the CII healthcare conclave event

There have been a lot of talks about health these days. However during a speech in CII on Wednesday, August 23, Sudhir Mungantiwar, Minister of Finance, Planning and Forest Department, Government of Maharashtra said, “Healthcare cannot be left behind. I have tied up with KPMG India for creating a model district in Chandrapur and Sindhudurg.”

He added, “Good health is synonymous to good country.”

He suggested that if the country needs to go ahead, it has to make a health card wherein all the case files; case history as well as medical prescription may be maintained. So when anyone goes to the doctor, they just have the card and know everything.

The worrisome issue, however, is the finance of health. Pricing of medicines is currently the concern. “Cases such as the Gorakhpur case just prove our ignorance. Those 20 children who passed away are the martyrs according to me, in order to open our eyes on our ignorance to such issues.”
