On August 14th, Faiza Tanveer, a 25-year-old from Lahore, tweeted to the External Affairs Minister of India, Sushma Swaraj, asking her to grant her a medical visa to get treated from Inderprastha Dental College & Hospital, Ghaziabad,Uttar Pradesh. The highlight however was, Tanveer referring to Swaraj as her ‘maa’ (mother), one of the cutest things you will read this Independence Day.
For a lot of us, Independence Day is synonymous with holiday and patriotism, rightly so. But for Tanveer, suffering from Ameloblastoma (a cancer in the jaw) and oral tumor that is aggressive in nature, this Independence Day was about coming closer to getting independent from her sufferings!
Tanveer tweeted on Tuesday saying, “@SushmaSwaraj mam qp mery lie maa he hain plz mam mujhu medical visa dy dain es 70win azadi k sall ki khushi main meri maddad kr dain dhnywd. (@SushmaSwaraj ma’am, you are like my mother and hence pls grant me a visa on this 70th Independence Day. Please help me).
Within half-an-hour of the tweet, Swaraj granted her the medical visa by tweeting, “Thanks for your greetings on India’s Independence day. We are giving you the visa for your treatment in India.”
And hence, this day of Independence was, indeed about celebrating the humanity bereft of sufferings.
