Food and intimacy go a long way, especially in a land where food is a priority. There are various ways in which intimacy can be expressed, one of which can be through food. At Sexycon 2017, a conference on sexual health held by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Padmashree Sanjeev Kapoor spoke about ‘food for sex’. The renowned chef believes that food is a solution to many problems, “I believe that whatever is good for your heart is generally good for a sexual life.”

Traditional Indian food is a perfect mix of all ingredients, right from haldi (turmeric) to honey to chillies. “Our traditional cuisine is a perfect mix of everything that can make us healthy and fit. It contains a balance that keeps us sexually healthy.”

However, onion and garlic are generally the ones for creating arousal, said the chef. “That’s the reason a lot of our elders never consumed onion or garlic or even left it by choice. It’s generally believed that onion does help in sexual arousal and hence, a lot of elders didn’t consume it for celibacy.” If you go to the West, oysters and red wine are widely considered to be good for sexual health, said Kapoor. He further said dark chocolate could also work wonders. Furthermore, exposure to sunlight is of paramount importance.

All in all, he sums up his ever riveting speech by saying, “sex is a union of active mind and a healthy body!”
