- Mumbai’s state-run St George hospital to start an Out Patient Department (OPD) for the patients suffering from mental illness.
- This will be a pilot project, which will kick-start from last week of October.
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Madhukar Gaikwad, Medical Superintendent of St George hospital said, “Tension, stress, lifestyle issues and many other factors contribute to the mental illness. We had no facility in our hospital do to deal with mental illness. So, by last week of October, we will start the OPD.”
Dr Gaikwad further added, “In this OPD, one psychiatrist from Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, one resident doctor and a nurse will be there. The OPD will work on three days in the week. Medicines will be provided for free, and counselling of the patients and families will be done here. In future we have a plan to have a separate ward for the patients suffering from mental illness.”
