On Monday, June 10, Dr Paribha Mukherjee, a young doctor was brutally attacked by a violent mob at NRS Medical College, Kolkata. He is critical and fighting for his life.
As part of the protest, all doctors in the country wore black badges on Friday, June 14. Doctors at Mumbai’s civic and government-run hospitals have also joined in the protest to show solidarity over this incidence. They have taken a stand against the growing spate of violence against doctors.
80,000 doctors across Maharashtra are on the strike to show their solidarity with the protesting doctors from West Bengal.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a strike on June 17, to raise the issue of increasing attack on doctors.
Doctors from Ayurveda, Homeopathy and different associations have also lent their support to the strike called by the IMA.


The Maharashtra State Branch of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association – ‘MSBIRIA’ has also decided to observe a one-day strike to show solidarity with the IMA.

The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) who went on strike on Friday, to support the doctors from West Bengal, will continue supporting the movement but will not join the strike.
