Breathing-problem

On Monday morning, the untimely November rain, has caught people off-guard. Doctors are now concerned. As, this humid weather may lead to respiratory issues.

According to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), Mumbai has moderate to poor air quality causing for worry among doctors across city.

Andheri, Mazgaon, Navi Mumbai had poor Air Quality Index (AQI) while BKC, Worli, Malad and Colaba had moderate AQI. Chembur, however, did have a good AQI.

“Today, the weather is humid. Owing to which, people are more likely to suffer from dry throat and related respiratory problems. The best way is to keep yourself hydrated with fruit juices and warm beverages. Avoid consuming cold drinks,” said Dr Mandar Kubal, an infectious disease expert from Infectious Diseases & Pulmonary Care, Chembur.

Doctors advise to take necessary precautions to keep the allergies and infections at bay. “Untimely rains lead to settlement of particulate matter increasing the risk of respiratory infections. This aggravates diseases like asthma, bronchitis  and so on. The best way is to not venture out in such unpredictable conditions,” said Dr Pratit Samdani, General Physician from Jaslok Hospital.
