The Mumbai police have always served as guardian angels of the city. They lent a helping hand in times of emergency and natural disasters. In one such incident which occurred a few days ago, the police helped a mother in to deliver a baby.
The incident happened on the intervening nights of December 23 and 24, at Dadar railway station in Mumbai.
The 21-year-old woman, who was nine months pregnant, started experiencing excruciating labour pains at the station. A team of male and woman constable from Mumbai police along with the doctors rushed to help the woman. The ensure that the woman was taken care of and finally, the woman managed to delivered a baby on the platform itself.
Geeta Waghare, was waiting on the platform to catch a train for Pune, with her husband and two kids. But suddenly, she began to feel intense labour pains. According to the police, her condition was such that she could not move. Hence, the doctors decided to deliver a baby on the platform itself.
The doctors created a makeshift labour room with the help of police personnel and passengers. In the CCTV footage, the policemen can be seen holding two bedsheets to cover the woman, so that the doctors could perform the delivery.
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Senior Inspector Prasad Pandhare, said, “It’s our job to help people who are in need. The policemen who were present on duty did a tremendous job by helping a woman to safely deliver a baby.”
According to the police, after the delivery, the woman and the baby were sent to Sion Hospital. Both the mother and child are doing fine.
