The incident occurred on Wednesday and the medical student who was pursuing gynaecology was found hanging by the ceiling fan in a hostel room.
Three resident doctors have been booked by the Mumbai police under various sections of the Atrocities and Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act of the IPC.
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abhilash Kumar, said, “A doctor named Payal Tadvi committed suicide. She was a first-year student pursuing a post-graduation course. When she had last spoken to her mother she told her three people were harassing and ragging her. A case has been registered against three resident doctors, but no arrests have been made. Further investigation is on-going.”
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, President, Central Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), said, “We are devastated after we came to know that Payal committed suicide on Wednesday. She was a good and jolly person. She showed no symptoms of depression and had also performed two surgeries the previous day. We held a meeting at 3 am last night, we will soon start a pan India sensitisation and orientation programme.”
