The 14-year was studying in the 9th standard when her health started deteriorating. She was eventually diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer and now she urgently require a bone marrow transplants as this is the only option she is left with.
She had to leave her schooling midway due to her life-threatening ailment. She was diagnosed with aplastic anaemia, a type of blood cancer by Dr Samir Melinkeri, a haematologist and cancer specialist attached Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital (DMH).
Her mother and Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital have started a fundraising campaign for her treatment.
“I always get a vomiting sensation. Once I start menstruation, I get excessive bleeding. Also, my ear is damaged. It’s been around a year since I have not attended school. I want to learn. I want to do work and earn money. But, my health is not allowing me to even complete my studies,” said Varsha.
Since her diagnosis, she has been receiving treatment in DMH, including blood transfusions as and when required. This treatment is given to her free of cost by Charity Department. Now she needs Bone Marrow Transplant. The estimated cost of this treatment is approximately Rs.10 lakhs.
“I am working as a cleaner in a government school. Varsha has one younger brother. I am the only bread earner of my family. Whatever I earn gets spent on our daily basic needs. We do not have any property. I want to give Varsha a healthy and long life. I appeal to all to donate whatever they can to save my ailing daughter’s life,” said her mother.
Shilpa Barve, Head of Charity Department, DMH, said, “The Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital Charity Department is expecting Rs 3.0 lakhs from Prime Minister and Chief Minister’s Fund. Since her diagnosis, she has been receiving treatment in DMH, including transfusions as and when required. This treatment is given to her free of cost by Charity Department.”
She added, “Now she needs a bone marrow transplant. The estimated cost of this treatment is approximately Rs.10 lakhs. We on behalf of her mother have started a fundraising campaign for the surgery. I appeal to everyone to donate generously for her surgery.”
Barve informed, “However, still there would significant shortfall. The bank cheques duly crossed be kindly sent in the name of, ‘Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Center’”.
