  • School students are a vulnerable population group. They are in a period of their lives that is crucial for development of their mental health. Children will be taught how to handle stress, depression and so on.
  • UGC Secretary  Professor Rajneesh Jain has written this letter to all the colleges and universities on March 01 to establish student counselling centres.
  • There will be psychiatrists at the centre.
  • This will allow free communication between the student and the college.

Professor Jain in the letter stated, ‘It should be a unique, interactive and target oriented system, involving students, teachers and parents to address common student concerns ranging from anxiety, stress, fear of change and failure, to a slew of other academic worries.’

Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Sagar Mundada, psychiatrist and youth-wing president of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Maharashtra Chapter said, “This will benefit the students. The students will be able to seek timely treatment if they have any psychological problems.”
