Joydeb Roth had departed from Kolkata on October 05, 2018 and reached Mumbai on December 28. Today, he visited blood banks in KEM and JJ Hospital. He met with the officials of the blood banks.
On his journey, he travelled across Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh), Delhi, Haryana, and eventually reached Mumbai.
He has been promoting the cause of blood donation, since the last 25 years. He began spreading awareness on blood donation since 1993.
A certain event in his life prompted him to take up the cause of making people aware of the importance of donating blood. He stated that one he was seriously ill and required blood. He was given four units of blood, and this helped save his life. It was then, that he realised how important blood donation was. This incident made him want to make more and more people aware of this.
He said, “Someone must have donated their blood and this ultimately helped save my life. And I then understood how important blood donation is. Since, that day onwards I have been working to spread the word on blood donation. I have been doing this since 1993.”
“In the past, I have cycled from Kolkata to Kanyakumari to raise awareness about the concept of blood donation. This is the second time that I have once again undertaken this initiative,” added Joydeb.
Joydeb further said, “Blood isn’t manufactured inside a factory. That is why; each and every person must come forward and take an initiative to donate blood.”
While speaking to My Medical Mantra about the long and hard journey which Joydeb undertook, Dr Hemant Bhalekar, an MD pathologist from Navi Mumbai stated, “I appreciate the efforts that this man has taken in order to raise awareness about blood donation. There is a big gap between the blood requirement and the blood which is being donated. People will draw inspiration from the journey that this man has taken and get encouraged to come forward and donate blood.”
Dr Sandeep Yadav, the medical director of Yashwantrao Chavan blood bank, said, “Blood donation is very crucial, it is important for people to be aware about it. Blood donation does not have any negative effects on the body. Instead, this act can help save the lives of countless other people. Everyone should donate blood at least once in a year.”
He added, “This is a very nice initiative that this person has other taken. His journey should encourage others to come forward and donate blood.”
