The staff in the canteen at Mantralaya, the state government’s administrative headquarters, has reduced the use of sugar in tea and other eatables.
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dadasaheb Kathal, General Manager at the Mantralaya canteen in Mumbai, informed, “Yes, we have decided to reduce the use of sugar in tea, coffee, and eatables. The decision has been taken by us, looking at the increasing diabetes cases.”
He added, “There are a number of people who are suffering from diabetes. And, we need to encourage them to lead a healthy life.”
The Mantralaya canteen dishes out nearly 10,000 cups of tea, along with 20kg of shira each day.
India is the world’s diabetes capital with around 6.5 crore people suffering from the disease. The most common diabetes in the country is the type 2 condition.
The average age for the onset of diabetes in India is around 43 and around one million die every year due to diabetes-related conditions. Timely and proper guidance is important to keep diabetes under control.
