The committee will probe Dr Payal suicide case in detail and submit the report to the government within five days.
The four-member committee includes:
- Dr Vakode, Additional Director, Medical Education and Research.
- Dr Ajay Chandanwale, Dean, JJ Group of hospital
- Dr Kalidas Chavan, Register, Maharashtra University of Health Science
- And Dr Bachi Hathiram, HoD, ENT, Nair Hospital
The order to probe Dr Tadvi suicide by a species committee has been issued on May 28.
The order states, “It has been alleged that Dr Payal committee suicide to the ragging by the seniors. And considering the gravity of the incident, the committee will probe the case in details.”
Dr Payal Tadvi committed suicide on Wednesday, May 22 by hanging from the ceiling fan from her hostel room. She was allegedly being harassed and ragged by three seniors and faced name-calling and casteist slurs.
On Saturday, Girish Mahajan the medical education minister set-up a three-member committee to investigate and look into the ragging. It will send a report in a few days.
On Tuesday, May 28, Girish Mahajan had assured Dr Payal’s parents that a stringent investigation will be conducted. Today evening, Dr Bhakti Mehare, one among the three absconding doctors involved in the ragging and harassing was arrested by Mumbai Police.
While Dr Hema Ahuja and Dr Ankita Khandelwal have filed for anticipatory bail for which the hearing will be conducted on Wednesday, May 29. The three doctors have also been suspended from Nair Hospital and the Maharashtra Resident Doctors Association (MARD).
