Manasi Joshi

Manasi Joshi, Para-Badminton shutter, won her first-ever gold medal in World Para-Badminton Championship. She won this title for the first time- beating a fellow Indian Parul Parmar. Manasi who has lost her one leg during an accident showed tremendous grit and determination.

Manasi is currently a social media star and receiving great support from her fans.

Manasi Joshi spoke exclusively to My Medical Mantra. These are the excerpts of the one-on-one interview where she recalls about the pain she suffered and the hard work she put in to reach new heights.

While talking about the moment, when she won the match against Parul, Manasi said, “I was surprised when I had won the gold medal. It was the happiest moment of my life. Before this, I had never defeated Parul Parmar in the past. So this truly was something which was very special to me. I will cherish that moment forever and will never be able to erase it from my memory.”

In December 2011, Manasi met with an accident, she lost her left leg in the incident. But she never gave up and stood strong once again. She is the true women power and a great inspiration for the millions of girls

She narrated the incident, which could have haunted her for the rest of her life if she wouldn’t have grasped with her reality and train a mind to be grateful for surviving the life-changing event.

“When I had met with an accident, life suddenly changed for me. Life had thrown umpteenth challenges in front of me. But, I knew, I had to be strong, I will overcome this for sure. So, I ensured that I will work with a positive mindset and face all the hurdles head-on.”

Manasi’s journey to reach to the world stage was like walking a road filled with thorns. Losing her leg, impacted her in a big way, this event in her life caused her a lot of trauma.  And life had other plans for her, as it presented various challenges which she had to face and overcome.

“I earned it, worked every bit of it,” she posted on Twitter after clinching the medal.

But, a never say never attitude and positive mindset helped her triumph over ever obstacles she faced, no matter how big or small. And finally, she won the gold medal and won over the hearts of millions of Indians.

She further said, “Every day, every second, I just thought about my practice and how to better my game. And, after winning the gold medal, I would proudly say, I earned it.”

Defeating her trauma, concurring with her pain, working through her negative emotions,  rising up against all the against odds, she stepped on the road which would help her fulfil her dreams and chased it with a burning passion with each passing day.

Manasi added, “I dedicate my gold medal to Gopi Sir and my parents. Who stood by me in my toughest of times. My parents have sacrificed their life for me.”

Manasi shared what she felt on the day that she was chosen for the para-badminton games. She was very elated and it gave her a new purpose and mission.

“I got selected for para-badminton games during 2015. And, then I regained confidence that I can also win a medal at the world stage,” she said.

In conclusion, we asked her if she had any message she would like to give budding athletes and youngsters, who would start looking at her as a new role model.

With confidence in her voice and fire in her heart, Manasi said, “I would like to tell all the youngsters when you are determined to achieve something in life, you can do it. The only thing you need is proper support and guidance from the right person.”
