'GI Endoscopy has a bright future'

Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, President, World Endoscopy Organization, discussed about the future of GI Endoscopy.

Dr Reddy Said, “The future is going to be metabolic endoscopy, where we can treat metabolic diseases like diabetes, obesity, Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) and so on. So, this can now be treated by endoscopy and it will be a major advantage. Also, we are competing heavily in the early treatment of cancers. So, all that can be treated endoscopically without the surgery.”

Speaking about the evolution of GI Management, Dr Reddy informed, “Since past 30 years, there has been a lot of development in the GI Management. We have gone from invasive procedures to minimally invasive procedures. Most of the procedures can be done with day care and out patient procedures with  low anaesthesia and the cost has come down considerably.”

Dr Reddy said, through this conference, I would like to tell the gastroenterologists, surgeons and the aspiring endoscopists, that the gastrointestinal endoscopy has a great future. “It is important to adequately train the gastroenterologists, surgeons  and the aspiring endoscopists. The conference is the example of how effectively we can showcase these procedures.”

He signed off by saying, “So, we should look at the patient as  ‘Whole’ and not a ‘Hole’ that we can just put endoscopes and treat.”
