This is the first and only blood storage centre in the country to have received this certification.
The accreditation is preceded by an intensive on-site assessment by specially trained NABH assessors and establishes that the level of technical and administrative performance within the facility meets or exceeds NABH standards.
These standards provide the framework to ensure safe and effective transfusion of blood and blood components to patients.
It has all the life-altering protocols like irradiation, leucodepletion, apheresis and component separation under one roof.
“It was in 2012 that the NABH released the list of standards for the blood storage centre – the same year we decided to set-up the unit at Ruby Hall Clinic, Wanowarie. Since the standards had been released by the NABH, we decided to follow the protocol and establish the centre accordingly. We applied for the accreditation in 2018 and received it within three months of application,” said Dr Snehal Mujumdar, Director – Blood Transfusion Services – Blood Bank, Ruby Hall Clinic.
