The Vishwa Marathi Parishad will be organising a second Vishwa Marathi Sahitya Sammelan which will be held in Bali, Indonesia the main theme of the conference is health related literature in Marathi language.

The organisers mentioned that there is plenty of literature available in Marathi on health related issues but it is hardly recognised as ‘literature’ among the literary circles.

Last year was in 2016, it was the first year when a theme was formulated for the event.  The last year’s theme was media related literature in Marathi. The aim to have such a theme is to give recognition to non-fiction literatures which go beyond the fiction genre of literature.

Sripad Joshi, convenor of Vishwa Marathi Parishad said, “There is a lot of literature in Marathi which focuses on particular profession. There is not just informative value, but a high literary value also attached to it. It is needful to give popularity to non-fiction literatures in different fields and therefore we have decided to focus our conference on different themes.”

Literature in areas of law, cinema, life sciences could be considered for the next conferences and the theme would be selected accordingly. This year’s conference will be held on September 10. The organisers mentioned that Bali was chosen for its rich connections with ancient Indian history along with the reason that 90 per cent residents of Indian origin who reside in Bali.

Nilesh Gaikwad, President of Vishwa Sahitya Sammelan, Pune, said, “It is necessary to go beyond fiction writing in different genres like poems, short stories, novels etc. In order to flourish Marathi we should focus on the literature which is written on different professions. We have not decided who would be our President for the seventh conference, but there are different doctors who have written a lot in Marathi on different topics concerning health and medicine.”
