On Friday, in a press conference, Pune chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA) mentioned that across the country, IMA doctors will be going on a symbolic fast on October 2, to protest against the no-decision of the government to make any concrete laws to address the increasing assaults on the doctors.
During the interaction, IMA also expressed that they are against cut and commission practices however, the current proposed law by the government needs amendments so that innocent doctors are not harassed.
Dr Prakash Marathe, Indian Medical Association (IMA) President, Pune, said, “Medical Council of India (MCI), Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) and other relevant acts can be modified to include all clinical establishment and health care providers and management of hospital. All hospitals, corporate health institutes should be brought under its preview.”
The provisions like inclusion of anti-corruption bureau in the act against cut practices were opposed. IMA also emphasised that law should not entertain anonymous complaints and demanded severe punishments for frivolous complaints.
Speaking about the recent Supreme Court order about mandatory Intensive Care Unit (ICU), IMA said that under the clinical establishment act, ICU is expected in a level-3 hospital whereas surgery is permitted in level-2 hospital. Obstetrics and gynaecology is allowed in level-1 hospital which may not have an operation theatre.
