Many people go out to visit their relatives or meet friends. But, while you get on your bike do remember to wear your helmet.

On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, (September 13), Lord Ganesha took to the streets to inform motorists about the importance of basic road safety.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Assistant Commissioner of Thane Traffic Police (ACP), Babaji Awahad said, “Accidents are caused when people do not follow basic traffic rules. Many people lose their lives due to road accidents. That is why we ask people to follow traffic rules. But many people do not adhere to them. We hope that they will at least listen to Lord Ganesha, which is why we have started this unique initiative.”

“On Thursday morning, a person wearing a costume with a mask depicting Lord Ganesha explained basic traffic safety rules to people and the importance of wearing a helmet. This happened at Nagpada area in Thane. He presented them with a helmet saying ‘This will protect your life.’ After that he blessed the bikers. In order to raise awareness on road safety rules we also displayed banners. If people obey road safety rules chances of accidents will be less and people won’t lose their lives.”

Nagpur City Police also tweeted out a witty picture to raise awareness on road safety rules.
