People, who have been diagnosed with kidney disease, have to go for dialysis, thrice a week. They spend Rs 1,800 to 2,000 in the private hospitals. To make it affordable for the patients, dialysis centres have been started near Kores Hospital at Vartak Nagar, materinity hospital near Kopri and one hospital at kasarvadavali. These three dialysis centres are run by Apex Kidney Foundation.
Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Ram Kendre, Medical Officer of Health, TMC said, “There is only one dialysis centre in Thane. Owing to which, there is a lot of rush. So, to take off that burden, 5 dialysis centres will be started. Three nephrologists will be appointed. Now, the registration of the patients who are on dialysis is going on. Their dialysis will be done once the medical examination is performed.”
He added, “In these three hospitals, 10 beds and dialysis machine has been setup. Apart from this, the idea is to start a health centre near Kashinath Ghanekar auditorium and dialysis centre at C R Wadia Hospital. The dialysis service will be provided in the coming month. Per day, we wish to perform dialysis on 200 patients.”
Prakash Shirodkar, head, business operations, Apex Kidney Foundation said, “After kidney failure, dialysis is the only option left. But, some people cannot afford undergoing dialysis in a private hospital. Owing to which, people do not opt for it. To help people to undergo dialysis, the dialysis centres will be started at three places in Thane. Apex Kidney Care will manage these centres. And we will try to provide necessary services to the patients.”
