Ten senior citizens to walk from Aurangabad to Tuljapur to raise awareness on organ donation

This is the third time that such a march has been conducted year. The main aim is to create awareness regarding organ donation in the rural areas. The previous march was from Nashik –Nagpur – Anandwan and the one prior that was from Mumbai to Goa


  • The walkathon will be a journey of 40 days.
  • It will have 38 pit stops along the way.
  • The senior citizens will cover a distance of 664 kilometres.

In this march, the team will start from Aurangabad and visit Jalna, Beed, Parbani, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Osmanabad. They will end their journey in Tuljapur.

This walk has been organised through the effort of 10 people from Mumbai, who work towards spreading awareness on organ donation.

One organ donor can save up to 8 lives. Owing to which these 10 Mumbaikars have come forward to create awareness on organ donation.

Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Sunil Deshpande, member of the Federation Of Organ and Body Donation, said, “We will be visiting each and every village in the Marathwada region to spread the word on organ donation. The journey will take 40 days. There will be 38 stops along the way. Will be visiting schools, colleges, and Primary Health Care centres. We will provide information about organ donation through pamplets, we will also give speeches about the importance of organ donation. We will also explain them about why this concept matters in society.”

MAnoj Gadkar, ZTCC coordinator for Aurangabad, said,”The Federation of organ and body donation have been working to raise awareness on organ donation since many years now. In the past, they have held walkathons across Maharashtra. They have travelled to Nashik-Nagpur-Andanwan, they I have also walked from Mumbai to Goa. In total, they are walked for 50 days and covered around 1,340 kms on foot. This is their third walkathon.”
