The number of patients with mental health issues is rising in the state. But in comparison to this, the numbers of psychiatrists are very low. In a year, only 20 post-graduate students become full-fledged psychiatrists. There are only 40 professors, across 16 government medical colleges in Maharashtra to teach psychiatry to these students
