On Tuesday, Former Australian opening batsman Mark Waugh visited Sankalp Rehabilitation Trust, a Mumbai-based NGO that works to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS amongst the injecting drug using community. Mark spent some valuable time by listening to the stories of the drug addicts, whose lives are back on track after quitting drugs and also motivated them by urging them to lead a healthy and a drugs-free life. The report finds that Hepatitis C causes the greatest harm among an estimated 12 million people who inject drugs worldwide. Out of this number, one in eight (1.6 million) is living with HIV and more than half (6.1 million) are living with hepatitis C, while around 1.3 million are suffering from both hepatitis C and HIV.
