Sushma Swaraj discharged from AIIMS after kidney transplant

Doctors said Swaraj has been advised to restrict visitors to minimise chances of infection for next three months at home and office

sushma-swarajUnion External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was discharged from AIIMS Hospital in Delhi on December 19 evening after a successful unrelated kidney transplant.

On November 17, Swaraj had announced about her kidney failure, hospitalisation and impending kidney transplant on Twitter.

Swaraj underwent transplant surgery on December 10. AIIMS in its press release said postoperative, Swaraj had uneventful recovery.

JP Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and President, AIIMS, visited Swaraj before her discharge and expressed satisfaction about her recovery.

Doctors said Swaraj has been advised to restrict visitors to minimise chances of infection for next three months at home and office.

Media reports say her longstanding diabetes status had led to kidney failure – a known complication of uncontrolled blood sugar levels.
