In one of the few important decisions taken at the meeting, Dr Deepak Sawant, the state health minister said every district in the state will have a special officer to monitor PCPDNT cases.

While the female sex ratio in the state in 2015 was 960, it has fallen sharply to 899 in 2016. The areas, which have seen the highest decline in the ratio, are Washim, Pune and Osmanabad. Preliminary studies conducted in 9 talukas of the state revealed that the rate of childbirth was low.

Dr Sawant, in Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT)  state committee meeting, that was held in Mumbai on August 22 also instructed to setup a tracking system to see whether the doctors prescribing abortion pills on a larger scale in the district.

Highlights of the meeting:

  • The  misoprostol drug for abortion will be kept in ‘Schedule H’
  • In the interstate border, patient’s residence proof to be taken during the sonography
  • Not right to fit the tracker for the sonography machine
  • It is mandatory to for the abortion centres to display their registration certificate
