Soon: Maha govt to set up ‘Nirbhaya centre’ at KEM Hospital

After the Nirbhaya rape case, the Government of India decided to set up 600 odd ‘Nirbhaya Centre’ across the country. These centres aim to provide immediate medical aid to rape, molestation and domestic abuse victims. Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured that one ‘Nirbhaya Centre’ will be set up in Mumbai’s civic run KEM Hospital

  • Rape, molestation and domestic abuse victims here onwards will not be juggled from one hospital to another, for medical examination.
  • Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured Maharashtra assembly that, within three months a ‘Nirbhaya Centre’ will be set-up in Mumbai civic run KEM hospital.
  • Mumbai BJP president and MLA Ashish Shelar had raised the question about ‘Nirbhaya Centre’ in the state assembly.

While answering the question raised by MLA Ashish shelar, CM Fadnavis replied, procedure to set-up ‘Nirbhaya Centre’ will be completed within three months. All the requisite permission will be given within one months’ time.

After ‘Nirbhaya’ case in 2012, Union government had decided to setup ‘Nirbhaya Centre’ to help rape, molestation and domestic abuse victims for medical treatment.

While raising the question BJP MLA Ashish Shelar said, “I have been pressing this demand to set-up ‘Nirbhaya Centre’ in KEM hospital with the police and BMC authority. For the past one-and-half year I have been following this issue. The main aim of this centre is to provide immediate medical and psychological help to the victim.
