Bloating is often an uncomfortable feeling in your abdomen area as a result of air built-up in the digestive tract. This uncomfortable feeling can also lead to things like gas, nausea and constipation. But, the good news is that you can set your body straight by loading up on these healthy foods, say experts.

Dr Ankita Ghag, clinical nutritionist,  Vacchan Arogya and Diabetes Care 365 said, “Avoid overeating as it leads to indigestion, sluggishness and bloating.  Keep away from spicy, junk and oily food. Also, eating too fast can lead to bloating.”

Ghag lists out foods and beverages which cause bloating:

  • Fizzy drinks
  • Apple
  • Processed foods
  • Garlic
  • Beans and legumes like chickpeas, lentils and peanuts
  • Mushrooms
  • Low fibrous foods
  • Alcohol and caffeine

Ghag tells you about foods that ease bloating:

  • Steaming cruciferous vegetables makes them easier to digest
  • Green smoothies, herbal tea, berries, grapes and banana
  • Quinoa
  • Sautéed zucchini
  • Coconut milk and nut milks
  • Dry fruits and nuts

Rutika Murudkar, a clinical nutritionist at Naraindas Morbai Budhrani trust informed, “Following a sedentary lifestyle can also cause bloating.”

Murudkar lists out foods which cause bloating:

  • Raw cruciferous vegetables like kale, cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage cause bloating and flatulence when eaten raw
  • Maida
  • Chinese food

Murudkar gives tips to reduce bloating:

  • Exercise regularly
  • Drink a lot of water
  • Consume high fibrous fruits, vegetables and salads
  • Green leafy vegetables
  • Oats and muesli
  • Probiotics like curd and buttermilk
