- To make it intoxicative, gangs producing gutka are using lizard tail in their product.
- The use of lizard tail is rampant in Mumbai slums.
- The state must act against these gangs under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
On one hand, Maharashtra is contemplating to make sale of gutka a non-bailable offence in the State. But, on the other hand a Shiv Sena MLC has levied an explosive allegation regarding this subject in the Vidhan Parishad.
While speaking on the floor of Maharashtra Legislative Council, Sena MLC Anil Parab said, “Lizard tail is being widely used to make gutka in the Mumbai slums.”
While speaking to My Medical Mantra on this issue MLC Anil Parab said, “There are various slums in Mumbai where gutka gangs are using lizard tail to make it intoxicative. My demand is that the state government should book all the concern persons under MCOCA (Maharashtra control of organised crime act).”
Last week, while replying to the question, State Cabinet minister for Food and Drugs Administration Girish Bapat had said that the state government is mulling to make gutka sale a non-bailable offence.
