Sai Sansthan organises blood donation drive to tackle blood shortage in state

Considering the continuous increase in demand of blood, the Sai Baba Sansthan in Shirdi has taken a step-in interest of humanity and is organising blood donation camp everyday within the temple area. This ongoing activity is being carried out by Shri Sainath Blood Bank on behalf of Shri Sai Baba Sansthan. The chairman of the trust, Dr Haware has conveyed this decision.

Shirdi is one of the most famous pilgrimage places in India and over 50 thousand devotees of Lord Sai Baba visit Shirdi daily. Keeping this in mind, the temple trust has taken this initiative. While giving detail insights of the initiative taken by the trust, Dr Haware said, “The need for blood and its components is increasing day by day and the number of blood donors are quite less in comparison.”

Moreover, recently in order to overcome the shortage of blood, the Railway Ministry have urged people to donate blood. In summer, the supply of blood seems to dry up. Most summer months hit a dry patch when it comes to blood being available in banks as most blood donors are students and go for a vacation during these months.

“Like in Tirupati Balaji temple in Tirumala, they have a custom of shaving head in order please the lord or on completion of a wish, daily over 15 thousand devotees shave their head offer their hair to the temple administration. The concept of hair donation has taken roots at Tirupati Temple. Similarly, if the Blood Donation concept can be rooted in devotees of Sai Baba, it would help in reduction of the void between the demand and supply of blood and blood components in future,” added Dr Haware.

The set-up of the Blood Donation camp is put up opposite museum and near donation offices in the Shri Sai Baba Samadhi Temple area. In order to attract more blood donors, the trust has declared that the donors will be felicitated on behalf of the Sansthan and direct Smaadhi darshan will be arranged for them. Various Blood Banks from the state also have joined this initiative.
