Rita Devi arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday, September 26 along with her uncle. She was admitted into Mumbai state-run St George Hospital today (Sept. 27) morning.

She has been complaining of severe stomach pain since the past few months. She has been experiencing this pain during her menstrual cycle.

Rita has been sent to the gynaecology department where the doctors will assess the reason behind her stomach pain which happens during menstruation.

At the hospital, she will go through a blood test, hormone test, and sonography.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Madhukar Gaikwad, Medical Superintendent, St George Hospital, said, “Her female hormones will be replaced with male hormones with the help of hormonal therapy. After her stomach pain issues are resolved, we will start the sex change procedure. Currently, she is being examined by a gynaecologist. After that we will decide about the sex change surgery. It will take at least 2-3 months.”

Rita’s sister, Urmila Devi, said, “We have received permission from the Assam government for the sex change surgery. But she has been experiencing unbearable abdominal pain since the past few months. She has come to Mumbai with our uncle and has been admitted to St George Hospital. But, the doctors have told us to wait for three months before the procedure can be started.”

On Wednesday, September 26, a special sex change OPD was inaugurated at St George Hospital. After the successful operation of Maharashtra police constable, Lalita Salve (Lalit) underwent sex reassignment surgery. Thirteen people have called the hospital enquiring about the sex change procedure.
