The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Mumbai Branch will be a filing a public interest litigation (PIL) with respect to the tragic death of senior Gastroenterologist Dr Deepak Amarapurkar. He had fallen into an open and uncovered manhole on 29th August 2017.
“We are deeply disturbed by this tragic incident. We have lost a good doctor. It’s the loss of society. We have to stop such negligence and that’s why we will be filing the PIL. We will fight till the end,” Dr Sudhir Patil President IMA Mumbai said while talking to My Medical Mantra.
The IMA has also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding concerned authorities to be penalised by the Criminal Act. “We demand that responsibility for this Criminal Act should be taken by the concerned authorities and the concerned officials should be penalised for this gross negligence. We also demand the authorities that proper protocols and practical solutions should be implemented to avoid such calamities in future,” reads letter.
“It is high time that we should act. Such negligence is getting out of hand. That’s why we have written a letter to the concerned authorities including the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister. We will also take this matter to court,” said Dr Shivkumar Utture, Treasurer, IMA (Maharashtra).
