Students of Muktangan English Medium School have started a crowdfunding campaign on social media for their ex-principal, Ranganath Joshi. The 66-year-old suffered from heart attack recently. His left ventricular of the heart is damaged and doctors have suggested him to undergo surgery as early as possible. There is a special bond between the students and their principal and they are doing the best they can to help gather funds for his surgery

Pune: Farmer’s family takes to crowdfunding to pay for heart transplant

The cost of surgery is around 70 lakh. Joshi is retired as Principal of Muktangan English Medium School. Now his students have started a campaign for raising funds for his surgery.

Neha Patil, one of the students said, “We are posting about crowdfunding for the surgery on different social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. The former students of the school have started donating and posting it on different platforms so that funds are generated. He was a great principal and he has taught us many things. We want him to have long and healthy life.”

Joshi is admitted in Ruby Hall Hospital in Pune. Doctors have advised Left Ventricular Assisted Device (L-VAD) surgery for him. He recently underwent angioplasty, but that did not help him. His family members were contacted by students so that they could to get all the details.

Dr Jagdish Hiremath, who is treating him said, “Around a month ago, he suffered from a massive heart attack. His left lower chamber is fully damaged and so sustaining life is difficult. He is on support now. We are improving his general condition. We will do an open heart surgery called  Left Ventricular Assisted Device (L-VAD). As early as possible he should undergo a surgery once his general condition is improved.”

Mandar Joshi, son of Rangnath Joshi, said, “The insurance amount is already exhausted. Some of the students contacted me and expressed their wish to start crowdfunding. I then shared all the details and many students have come forward and donated generously.”

The unexpected from the students has come as a blessing in disguise. It shows that they really value Rangnath Joshi and the things that they have learnt from in. Even though help has started pouring in it is not enough and more financial assistance is needed to fund the surgery.

Surekha Joshi, head of Medical Social Department at Ruby Hall Clinic, said, “We have informed the family about different platforms through which they can gather help. We are trying our best to generate money as early as possible. I appeal that more and more people should donate generously.”
