Eve of August 22, 2018 has marked another successful event for Sassoon General Hospital (SGH), Pune. First Liver Transplant at Sassoon General Hospital, which is First in the State Government Medical Colleges, affiliated Government Hospitals.
The recipient from Sassoon Hospital was 58 years old, retired primary teacher from Tarale village in Satara district. He was suffering from Liver Cirrhosis for the past three years. He was enlisted in waiting list. After the due procedures, he was selected and successful Liver transplantation was done at this institute. This was the first successful Liver Transplant at SGH, Pune
The team consisting of Dr. Kamlesh Bokil, Dr. Santosh Thorat, and Matron Rajshree Korke, Nurse Dharna Jagtap went to Solapur private Hospital for Liver retrieval from brain dead patient. Ruby Hall Clinic provided the technical assistance.
The team consisting of Dr. Shital Dhadphale, Dr.Shashikala sangle, Dr.Vandana Dube, Dr.Kiran Jadhav, Dr. Ajay Taware, Anesthesia team of Dr.Vidya Kelkar, Dr.Surekha Shinde, Dr. Yogesh Gawali and Dr. Harish Tatiya along with all the Hospital Staff under the able guidance of Dr. Ajay Chandanwale Sir has taken mammoth efforts for success of this transplant procedure.
On the occasion of this Dean, Dr. Ajay Chandanwale sir said, “The Government Institutes are now at par with many private institutions and has shown the light of hope to many poor and needy patients who can not afford the expensive treatment at the private hospital.”
He added, “Secondly the mission of organ donation awareness has started under the guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Minister of Medical Education of the State of Maharashtra Girish Mahajan has now reached too many and has shown the positive approach of relatives while dealing with organ donation. Due to this, we were able to perform 9 successful Kidney Transplants in the last year. This will help change the image of Government Hospital in near future will help to provide quality health care services to poor and needy.”
The liver performs many important functions such as metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. The liver synthesises albumin & clotting factors. It is the central metabolic organ as well as the largest immunological organ of the body. So liver transplant is a challenging surgery. So post-operative care of liver transplant patient is equally important. Doctors said that patient is doing fine.
