Many times, the complicated cases that are admitted to Pune Municipal Corporation are referred to Sassoon General Hospital as doctors at the civic-run hospitals, at times lack the medical knowledge and expertise to deal with such cases. Now in order to overcome this issue, the municipal corporation has decided to take the help of doctors from Sassoon General Hospital.
Doctors from SGH, through video conference will be able to train doctors on difficult cases. This will not only help in reducing the referrals, but it will also the doctors learn.
Dr Sanjeev Wavare, Additional Medical Officer of Health, said, “We are expecting that this will start in a month’s time. This will help us in creating efficient doctors at municipal corporation level. Patients will also benefit as they will get service without any need of going to SGH.”
The facility will be started in five maternity homes and five OPD’s under PMC. The initiative will be implemented under Company Social Responsibility (CSR) activity basis. The facility of telemedicine and video conferencing will be used as and when required. The consultants working in SGH will also be a part of the initiative.
Doctors from the SGH said that they get complicated cases, which come as referrals from the municipal corporation’s hospitals. This leads to heavy work load on the hospital staff.
