Pune: Mass organ donation pledge campaign breaks Guinness World Record

The Guinness World Records has bestowed a certificate for the most people signing up for organ donation online in eight hours. This feat was achieved by Rotary International District 3131 and Sahyadri Hospitals in Pune, India

The Guinness World Records has bestowed a certificate for the most people signing up for organ donation online in eight hours. This feat was achieved by Rotary International District 3131 and Sahyadri Hospitals in Pune, India.

The Rotary International mass pledging drive for organ donation has started at 11 am on Thursday and went on till 7 pm. Many across India and even abroad pledged their organ donors.

The massive Organ Donation awareness program ‘Gift Life’ undertaken by Rotary District 3131 today got resounding success with 21, 600 people( and still counting )  from 22 towns including Pune, Daund , Kolhapur , Baramati  making online pledge for organ donation and beating the earlier record of 3,316 pledges in a single day.

Amruta Deogaonkar , Convenor Gift life initiative, said, “Through this campaign we attempted to break the Guinness Record of maximum online organ donation pledges in 8 hours and we did it! Everybody who pledged their organs is a part of this . We would like to thank all the companies, hospitals, various NGOs, Rotary Clubs and organisations who made this possible.

Once the pledge form was filled the relatives of those who have signed up for the pledge form got a message informing them that a pledge form is being filled by that person. The data of all those who have signed up for the pledge form will be given to National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO).
