For the first time in India, a woman has given birth to a baby girl, after a successful uterus transplant. She is also the first woman in Asia, to ever do so. And the baby girl, who is weighted 1.450 Kilograms, has become Asia’s first child to be born after a uterus transplant.
According to the doctors from Pune’s Galaxy Care Hospital, the woman gave birth to the baby girl at 12.12 Am, on October 18.
A team led by Dr Shailesh Puntambekar, Director of Galaxy care hospital performed the delivery procedure.
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Shailesh Puntambekar, Director of Pune’s Galaxy care laparoscopic Institute said, “I am very happy and satisfied today. Today is the most important day of my life. The baby girls weigh about 1.450 kilograms. We performed the delivery through the laparoscopy and the delivery was done through cesarean. This is the first delivery which has been performed laparoscopically, in the world.”
Dr Neeta Varty, a well-known gynaecologist and a laparoscopic surgeon while speaking to My Medical Mantra said, “Today is the biggest day of my life. I have no words to describe my happiness. As a doctor i will never forget this day in the lifetime.”
