While the burden of diabetes is increasing in India, experts are pointing out the need to create more awareness on its prevention and cure. It is with this reason that IMA Pune along with some other organisations in Pune has organised an awareness program for the same.

When it comes to type 2 diabetes, the most common type of diabetes, prevention is a big deal. It is especially important to make diabetes prevention a priority if you’re at increased risk of diabetes, such as if you are overweight or you have a family history of the disease.

Currently, type 1 diabetes is not preventable. However, studies have shown that type 2 diabetes can be prevented by adopting lifestyle changes that include moderate weight loss through eating a healthy diet and regularly exercising.

Dr Meenakshi Deshpande, secretary of IMA, Pune, said, “We have organised this in order to spread awareness on diabetes and related things. The main program will be held on IMA Pune Hall on Tilak Road. We appeal to all people to attend the programme.”
