Powai: 3 dead, 2 injured in a crane accident

India is committed to reduce the number of road accidents. However, road safety levels have taken a serious hit with the country witnessing one of the highest growth rates of vehicles in the world and rapid urbanisation over the years

 

Powai: 3 dead, 2 injured in a crane accident

  • A Report on Road Accidents in India 2016, published by Transport Research wing under Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, has revealed that more people died on roads accidents in India last year, as compared to the number of deaths in 2015.
  • As per the data cited in the report, the country recorded at least 4,80,652 accidents in 2016, leading to 1,50,785 deaths. The number suggests that at least 413 people died every day in 1,317 road accidents. Further breaking down the statistics, the data reveals that at least 17 deaths occurred in road accidents in 55 accidents every hour in the given time period.
  • However, the year 2018 started off with a bad news. As, on the first day of the year, 3 people lost their lives in an Crane accident.

Road accidents are unpredictable and distressing as they claim innocent lives. Today, one the first day of the year 2018, 3 innocent people lost their lives. A Crane collapsed at 7:02 pm near IIT Bombay, Powai. Five people were injured. Amongst whom, three are dead and two are injured. The injured are admitted to the Rajawadi Hospital.

Dr Jadhav, Assistant Medical Officer, Rajawadi Hospital said, “At 7:02 pm, the front part of the Crane collapsed while digging the pit for main sewage line at Powai on five labourers. 3 labourers declared brought dead and 2 injured namely Korsingh, 48 and Ramsingh 48, are admitted in the Rajawadi Hospital. These labourers were employed with a private company.”
