In June 2018, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a warning to all the Mumbaikars, who own a pet. The civic body had stated that pet owners should pick up their pet’s poop if the animal has defecated in a public area.

Now the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will follow suit.

On July 01, 2019 the Urban Development Ministry of Maharashtra had issued a notification stating that people should not feed animals and birds in public places. It also mentioned that owners of pets should make sure that animal poop is cleared properly or picked up by pet owners. They will be held responsible and be penalised if they do not follow the rules.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Anil Roy, Medical Health Officer of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, said, “It has been noticed that a number of times due to pet animals, the area becomes dirty. Pet owners should take responsibility for their pet’s waste if their pet has defecated in a public place. It is the responsibility of citizens to keep the area clean. If pet owners do not adhere to the guidelines then they will be penalised.”
