Padma Shri awardee, Dr Titiyal performs phacoemulsification surgery at BOA conference

Dr Jeevan Titiyal performed a phacoemulsification surgery with foldable IOL lens. The surgery was performed on a patient who was myopic and had a grade 3 cataract. He is one of the 17 eye surgeons who performed live surgeries at Sir JJ Group of Hospitals

At the Bombay Ophthalmologists Association’ s, FOCUS 2017 Silver Jubilee Conference, Dr Jeewan S Titiyal, a Padma Shri Awardee and a Professor of Ophthalmology at Dr RP centre for ophthalmic sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences briefed us about the surgery performed by him.

He is one of the 17 eye surgeons who performed live surgeries at Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, Mumbai that was relayed to Hyatt Regency, Sahar, Mumbai to the delegates.

“I performed a surgery on a patient who had cataract, grade 3, who was myopic,” said Dr Jeevan Titiyal.

Salient features from the surgery include:

  • Surgery-phacoemulsification with foldable IOL lens. He demonstrated surgical technique without giving a block.
  • Quality of machine Nidek CV 9000, which gives control during surgery, better management of post occulsion surge. It also maintains the anterior chamber throughout the surgery.
  • Quality of the intraocular lens used for patient was latest generation hydrophobic foldable IOL with glue filtering, glistering free. They are very comfortable-pre loaded device for a IOL injection which goes through a small incision of less than 2.2 mm.
  • In the post operation period , patients have very comfortable vision without undue photoptic symptoms and the posterior capsule remains clear for a very long time.
