As the city beamed with lights, gifts and greetings, three families gifted life to more than six people in the city. This week was a right one for most of us. However, it ended in a tragic way for three families. A hospital staff in the Wockhardt, Mira Road donated her son’s liver, kidneys and eye – gifting a new lease of life to five.
On Friday, October 20, Rupa Uchil’s son, Pratik met with a fatal accident, on Kashimira road. Ravi Hirvani, centre head, Wockhardt Hospital, Mira Road said, “Since 5 years, Rupa Uchil is working with Wockhardt Hospital and she was aware about organ donation drive conducted by us. Hence, she decided to donate his organs, which is a really appreciable decision.”
Also, last week a Thane resident passed away suddenly amidst Diwali preparations. It was on Wednesday that she complained of an unbearable headache. That’s when she slipped into coma and she was declared brain-dead. She gifted life to three.
Another resident from Kamothe passed away in a similar way, giving a new lease of life to three.
In this year, total number of cadaver donation has reached 50, while the last year it was 58. Three organ donations took place in the past three days, amidst the crazy lights of Diwali.
