Organ donation: Brain-dead woman gives new lease of life to three

The family of a 47-year-old woman consented to donate her organs after she was declared brain-dead, this act of generosity helped give a new lease of life to three patients who were waiting for an organ transplant


A cadaver donation took place at Mumbai’s Wockhardt Hospital on Friday, September 07. The 47-year-old female patient became brain-dead during the course of her treatment.

The woman was admitted to the hospital as she suffered a stroke. Her family was counselled by mental health professionals at the hospital, after she passed away.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Parag Rindani, Centre Head, Wockhardt Hospital said, “Her liver and kidneys were donated. The liver was sent to Global Hospital, one kidney was retained by Wockhardt Hospital and another kidney is sent to Jaslok Hospital. We thank her family for taking this tough decision in their time of grief.”
