Organ donation: Brain-dead Pune woman saves four lives

A 34 year-old woman who suddenly fell unconscious was declared brain dead at Sassoon General Hospital, (SGH). She saved life of four people by donating her organs

While two kidneys were transplanted at SGH itself, the heart and pancreas was given for transplantation to a private hospital.

The combined efforts of doctors at SGH could not get any success and when she was declared brain dead, her family gave consent for organ donation. ZTCC Pune gave permission for organ transplant on January 28.

Dr Murlidhar Tambe, dean of SGH, said, “More and more organ donations should happen at government hospitals. So that more people benefit out of organ the transplant procedure.”
