- The parents of an eight month old child pledged his organs towards the noble cause of organ donation in Pune last week.
- While there are hundreds of kids on the waiting list to get vital organs, there are few parents who give consent for their kid’s cadaver organ transplant.
- The couple wants all parents to pledge their children’s organs, so that others in dire need of an organ transplant, can get a new lease of life
Mayur A K is the eight month old son of a navy officer. His father, Commander Aditya K P proudly said that, “My kid will feel proud when he grows up and understands what I have done.”
“My son is fit. God forbid, nothing bad should happen to him. But in case if something unforeseen happens, I do not want his life to be wasted. I will be happy if he gives his life to others,” said Mayur’s father who himself is a register eye donor.
“I have donated blood several times and I know the feeling one gets after doing this act of kindness. Organ donation is something which gives you an opportunity to give life to someone. Also, India is a country with a huge population. Though the awareness about organ donation is increasing, there are still many on the waiting list. Also, there are many children who need an organ transplant. It is only when parents of healthy kids come forward to pledge their kids organs that the lives of little children can be saved,” he added.
Rajesh Shetty, founder of Rebirth NGO, which works in the field of organ donation, assisted the boy’s father in completing the process of filling in the pledge form.
He said, “Our NGO has assisted hundreds for signing in the pledge form for organ donation. But this was special moment for us as this is the only case where a father of a kid who is as young as eight month old has come forward for the same. He has set an example for all other parents.”
