Organ donation campaign implemented by Girish Mahajan, Maharashtra’s Medical Education Minister, is getting a good response across the state. Organ donation day was celebrated on August 29. As part of this campaign; a human chain was created by the dignitaries of Sir JJ group of hospitals and grant medical college, government and medical professionals, from IMA and other important people.
To create awareness regarding organ donation, paintings, posters and organ donation registration booth was set up in Mantralaya. The centre was managed by Vidya mission’s Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC). 400 people from Mantralaya have pledged to donate their organs. Amongst which, 65 per cent people are under the age of 40.
In addition, every person has taken 3 to 4 applications form for their family. At this booth, right from senior officials to fourth grade employees, all have registered. Home department is involved extensively in this. Right from police deputy commissioner to police constable, all have pledged their organs. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his wife Amrita have already pledged for organ donation.
If a person wishes to donate his organs after death, then he can fill the consent sheet and give it to the nearest registration centre with his relative’s signature. After which, he will get a donor card, which he should carry with him and should inform his relatives about the same. Organ donation will help many patients who are waiting for the same.
