Organ donation: 19-year-old youth, gives new life to three

A 19-year-old boy from Latur has given a new lease of life to 3 people waiting for donor organs. The boy Kiran Sunil Lobhe was electrocuted at his residence. He was then taken to a private hospital. After being declared brain-dead, yesterday afternoon and the family being counselled, his body was then shifted to Government Medical College, Latur for organ retrieval.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Rajaram Powar, the Dean of Government Medical College, Latur said, “Kiran was being treated for head injuries. He started bleeding in the head and was later declared brain-dead. After counselling, his family agreed to donate his organs. His heart and both of his kidneys have been donated. The heart was flown to the Asian Heart Hospital in Mumbai.”

A green corridor was created to transport Kiran’s heart. A plane was arranged to transport the heart from Latur to Mumbai. One of Kiran’s kidneys is has been donated to a patient in MGM Hospital, Aurangabad and the other one to a patient in Kamalnayan Bajaj Hospital, Aurangabad.
