The October heat is here, with maximum temperatures in Mumbai on the rise. Personal hygiene goes for a toss owing to heat and humidity. Keeping your body clean is an important. As it helps you feel good and keep you free from viruses, bacteria, allergies, infections and diseases.

Dr Uday Rane, a Mumbai-based Gynaecologist said, “Urinary tract infection is commonly seen in the ladies so up your water intake. Cleaning your vagina is perhaps the most important personal hygiene rule that every woman must follow. There is excessive sweating which can result into odour. This can also result in irritation, itchiness, dryness, and infection. Wash the area and keep it clean.”

Dr Abhay Talathi, dermatologist, SkinSpace clinic, Mumbai said, “Women should ensure, they follow a personal care routine as allergies and infections can give them a tough time.”

Doctors list out some personal care tips:

  • Dysuria is a symptom of pain, discomfort, or burning when urinating. It is more common in women
  • If your vagina has a strong or unpleasant odour, see your doctor
  • Change your undergarment twice in a day
  • Choose clothing you wear that allow air flow and secretions can evaporate
  • Change your clothes after physical activities and after you relieve excess sweat
  • Instead of wearing tight clothing, choose more comfortable materials and wear cotton underpants
  • Using anti-fungal powders and lotions after consulting with your doctor
  • Wear lose and cotton clothes
  • During menstruation, avoid using scented pads which can lead to infections
  • Tackle that body odour
