Amidst the chaos and confusion in the minds of parents regarding the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, the union health ministry has now directed the states to first and foremost to quell the doubts of parents which the parents are having.

The state Health department will start the MMR vaccination drive from November 25 to December 25. The union health ministry has asked the schools to hold meeting meetings with the parents to make them aware about the vaccine.

It is imperative to provide relevant information to the parents about the benefits of the vaccine. Any doubts or questions should be clarified and answered. This is important so that the parents have a holistic view about the vaccine. The immunisation drive is a crucial part of tacking this preventable disease.

The MMR Vaccine will be administered free of cost to all children aged between 9 months and 15 years across the state from session sites, in schools, community as well as health facilities

While speaking to My Medical Mantra,  My Medical Mantra, Directorate of Health Services, Dr Sanjeev Kamble said, said, “Before administering the MMR vaccine to the children. A parent teacher meeting will be called upon by the school administration to create awareness about the vaccination drive. After getting consent or approval from the parents the child will be given the MMR vaccine.”
