NMC Bill: IMA asks doctors to prepare for direct action

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) officer bearers had a meeting with Union Health minister, J P Nadda in Delhi on Monday, April 02. Various issues pertaining to PCPNDT Act and violence against the doctors were discussed in the meeting. After which, the IMA, had asked all of its members to prepare for direct action at a short notice

  • IMA will be closely monitoring the movement of the NMC Bill in parliament. As mandated in the IMA Mahapanchayat , if the NMC Bill is forced upon the medical fraternity by the Lok Sabha, IMA will declare complete withdrawal of services by all modern medicine doctors throughout the country with immediate effect.
  • Intensify political lobbying of all Rajya Sabha MP’s by all IMA members. All Presidents and Secretaries of state and local branches have been asked to start preparing for direct action at a short notice by the IMA National President

The allopathy doctors are gearing-up for a massive surgical strike against the government on NMC Bill. On Monday, the Indian Medical Association had a meeting with Union Health minister, J P Nadda in Delhi. The meeting lasted for over two-and-half hours. During the course of the meeting, issues like PCPNDT, CEA, violence against doctors, capping of compensation were discussed at length.

After the meeting with the Union Health Minister, National President IMA, Dr Ravi Wankhedkar convened an Extended Action Committee meeting at IMA headquarters. At this meeting, doctors discussed the alternatives and means to fights with the government.

Dr Ravi Wankedkar, President of the Indian Medical Association, who was leading the meeting on behalf of the doctors fraternity said, “The stalled process of inter-ministerial recommendations was reopened for implementation and minister has ordered officials to implement all recommendations within a time frame. Unfortunately, the minister avoided the discussion on NMC Bill on the grounds that the bill is under pending consideration of the Lok Sabha.”

The meeting was attended by Presidents and Secretaries of all states and National office bearers.
