Locating a public toilet in a city like Mumbai is like searching for a needle in a haystack. As the number of toilets are very few. But now, Google will help you to find the exact location of nearby public toilets. Just search it on Google and you will surely find it.
Since the last few years, ‘Right to Pee’ activists are raising and highlighting the issue relating to the lack of public toilets in the city for women. As female commuters often face difficulties in finding a toilet in public places.
In order to make information about public toilets easily accessible to citizens, the BMC has uploaded this data on Google Maps.
The BMC had launched an android mobile app named ‘Local Toilet.’ But, the app failed to gain momentum and it garnered a lukewarm response from Mumbaikars.
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Assistant commissioner BMC, Abhishek Aajgekar said, “Earlier we had launched a mobile app, where one could locate a public toilet in their vicinity. People had to download that app. There is now no need to download any app now, as we have uploaded the relevant information on Google Maps.”
He further added, “We started a trial in the month of October and it went on till December and the results were satisfying. From now onwards, if anyone wants to locate a public toilet near to them. They just have to type it and Google will show them the nearest one on their route.”
Mumtaj Shaikh, a Right to Pee activist said, “We are fighting on this issue for availability of public toilets for the past few years. In a city like Mumbai, there are roughly around 2,500 public toilets. With Google showing where to find a toilet, people will find it more easy and accessible now.”
